WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy can help you to become self-empowered, to free yourself from unwanted habits, behaviours and feelings, and to discover your full potential. Your therapist will act as your guide, guiding you into a safe and natural state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness, enabling you to make the changes that you desire, to improve the quality of your life.
Hypnosis has been in use in various parts of the World for many years. For example, the Australian Aborigines have used a hypnotic trance state for thousands of years and still do, as do the North American Indians. People tend to think of hypnosis now in terms of the stage hypnotists, who hypnotise people for public entertainment. However, everyone has been in a hypnotic state, a trance, at some time or other; they have just not been aware of it because it seemed so natural. Daydreaming, for example, is one of the trance states.
Today, hypnosis and its therapeutic benefits are widely acknowledged and accepted. It is a complementary therapy that offers an effective and gentle way of assisting many emotional, psychological and anxiety-based issues. Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy, and your therapist will talk gently to you, using visualisation and relaxation techniques until you are deeply relaxed and will then make positive suggestions tailored to your needs, to help you make the changes in your life that you want to make.
When we are totally relaxed, our senses are heightened and our minds more open to positive suggestions. However, you can be assured that you will remain in total control and aware of what is happening around you at all times. You cannot be made to do anything that you do not wish to do and you will come out of the trance when you are ready to do so. When you do, you will feel invigorated, refreshed and relaxed, as though you have just had a lovely, long sleep.
Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of issues, including:
Anxiety and stress
Fears and phobias
Smoking and weight issues
A lack of self-esteem and confidence
Driving test and exam anxiety
Improving sports performance.
